I have been playing online games since they began. Ultima Online and
Everquest mainly. The tendence is to be "androgyne", to play characters of
both genders. But the most interesting players are the ones who "crossdress"
in the game, making choices and living out the phantasies they can't live in
the real life.
I have a friend acting in Second Life as a woman and married to another
female avatar. In real life he is a man in his 50, with two grown up
children, who always dreamed of being a woman. He is married in real life to
a understanding and intelligent woman who don't treat him as a freak and who
share with him her make up and dresses. The children are aware too of the
father's feeling of uneasyness as male in the real world and accept his need
as natural.
